I’ve been chewing for a day or two on Daybreak Part 2 and Battlestar Galactica in general as an artistic endeavor. While some of you may have watched me mercilessly gush praise over the agenda I have to admit that while the series finale left me extremely entertained and emotionally heartbroken I did have some discontentment with the direction they took it. For a agenda that rooted itself so deeply in the science half of “science fiction” I was positively perplexed and let down by the amount of hocus pocus spiritualism in the final half of the two hour conclusion.

I’ll be the first to admit that it’s nearly an insurmountable task to take a 5 year build up and wind it up over the course of a join of weeks to everyone’s satisfaction. In light of that, I did feel that Daybreak did positively live up to the standards of writing and output that we’ve become accustomed from Galactica. It’s naturally a philosophical dissimilarity I have with the Ron Moore and the writing staff on this. I’m going to take on Daybreak piece by piece and character by character to break down the triumphs and disappointments.

Heavenly Cakes

o The Final Assault. The writers did perfect work bringing the series to its conclusion. The characters and events had been slowly construction toward a real sense of finality ever since the mid-season finale and the discovery of what we now know was the “original” Earth. There was puny left for them to accomplish other than survival. One of the shining moments in Daybreak Part 1 for me was Adama’s realization that the only right thing to do was to mount the high risk rescue exertion of Hera. Looking her photograph on the wall as the Galactica is being torn down for scrap and suddenly realizing that she was the only thing left that whether the colonials or their Cylon allies had left marked the final and most prominent leap for the character of Bill Adama. Hera positively wasn’t the last best hope for mankind and the Cylons, she was a vitally prominent sticker of the unity of the two races.

Knowing that the aged Battlestar had nothing left and using it as a club to clobber the Cylon colony in a suicide run was positively a fitting end for the ship that the show is named after. Reminiscent of the fantastic and sharp rescue of the colonials from New Caprica using the Pegasus, the charge on the Cylon colony was an inspired sequence and positively one of the most spectacular performance set pieces in the show’s run. While using the Galactica as battering ram was a fantastic stroke, I believe that the writers took the low road in the conclusion by missing an opportunity that had been set up several episodes ago.

The nukes being fired at the heart of the Cylon colony by the hand of the dead colonial pilot was a bit contrived and wholly unnecessary. They established already that doing an Ftl jump in or near another ship was a devastatingly destructive to the ship ship staying put. In fact, the only infer Galactica was now in the shape she was in was because Boomer executed an Ftl jump too close, tearing out part of her hull and causing weighty damage. When all fell apart in the Galactica Cic and Adama realized they had to jump the hell out of there, the Ftl jump should have torn the heart of the Cylon colony to shreds. Was the silly “dead hand” pushing the nuke button primary at all? However, this was an astonishing sequence and this minor quibble with how it ended is positively not enough to take away from the brilliance of the whole sequence both conceptually and visually. As a side note, two very nice nuances of the battle were Looking the “classic” Cylon centurions being pulled out of mothballs to fight for Cavil’s side and I was taken aback (in a good way) to see the suitable model centurions help lead the charge on the colony. I don’t know why, but just Looking Centurions taking commands from humans just kind of blew me away and gave much more of a visual sticker of the collaboration in the middle of Cylon and Human. Uber-awesome.

o The Pre-Holocaust Flashbacks. I believe that it was this element that made the whole Daybreak story work so well. By weaving these glimpses back in time we get to see the pivotal events in the lives of the bulk of our main characters. In each of these cases we see the moment that sealed the destiny of all of them. The weakest of these segments was the Lee and Kara story, which seemed clunky and least relevant. But even these flashbacks gave us some great insights into both characters straight through the course of their candid post-dinner conversation. The whole “Frakkin Bird” in Lee’s house and the symbolism with Kara just kind of left me cold, though.

On the other hand, the Baltar/Six segment and the Adama/Tigh pieces were fantastic. Though it’s been touched upon before, we finally positively get to see why Ellen Tigh always harbored resentment for Bill Adama. We know from the course of the primary series that it was only because of Adama that Tigh was still in the service. Obviously if Adama hadn’t had made that life-changing decision not to retire into a civilian career, Tigh and Ellen would have perished in a drunken stupor on Caprica. Overall, it all played into the thing that Ron Moore emphasized as the most prominent aspect of the show going into it’s finale: it’s the characters. all else notwithstanding, we’re here for the characters.

o Boomer’s Story. While the Cylon model 8′s have been the poster girls for Pms for the past 4 seasons, Boomer has been one of the most mis-treated characters. I’ve been somewhat surprised that they re-integrated her into the story this season in as prominent of a role as they have. They did give Boomer a fitting send off, however. It’s hard to feel too much condolement knowing what we now know even watching her get the third degree from an intoxicated Tigh and Adama for her crappy landing skills. Though probably unnecessary to expound her change of heart, it was a nice touch to the story to see the real infer for her to “pay back” the the old man. Since Boomer positively was one of the key pieces of the first story, we get satisfactory closure.

o Galen and Tory’s Story. Over the past few episodes I’ve positively had some reservations about where they had been going-in other words pretty much nowhere-with Tory’s story. Of the final five, she’s the one that seemed to embrace her Cylon inheritance with a vengeance and bring us one of the first truly shocking moments of season 4 by flushing Galen’s wife out of the airlock. I was going to be a bit disappointed if that incident faded. Ultimately, what happened in the middle of Tory and Galen was extremely personal and a fitting end to the traitorous Cylon wench, but it was also the key to the end of the Human-Cylon war. By snapping Tory’s neck, the Resurrection private is gone forever. I’m not sure having Galen go off by himself to start Scotland rang all that true, but he was positively too screwed up in the head by the end to have any real prospects anyway. The closure for these two was fitting, and as much as I hate needless violence, the snapping sound of Tory’s neck was oh-so satisfying.

o Saul and Ellen’s Story. There’s not positively much to say about these two alcoholic misfits. I’m still not entirely clear whether pre-resurrection Ellen was aware of her Cylon nature, but I assume she wasn’t like the rest of the final five. In season one, the stormy marriage of these two positively didn’t seem to be a match made in heaven, but it was a nice turn nearby to bring this back and turn them into Galactica’s Cylon soul-mates. I fantasize that their first course of company after construction a small cabin will be to originate Earth’s first moonshine still.

o Anders and the Agathons Story. I have to admit, Even though I was hardcore into Galactica, I spent most of season 2 and a lot of season 3 not positively caring much about Anders and Helo, and quite frankly half the time I couldn’t have told you which was which in a line up. In a sense, I felt that for being such a key component of the conclusion of the saga, that they never positively did give Anders his due and straight through the pre-holocaust flashbacks gave him the development that he never positively got. It was satisfactory. As Anders over the past few weeks has gone from being a character to basically just another piece of ship machinery we at least bring back some human element to his story before driving his rear end into the sun.

As far as Sharon and Helo, I’m wholly indifferent. Helo has always pretty much been a whopping bore for me. Sharon’s been a great character at times. Her chats with Adama in the early seasons were thoughtful and insightful. She’s positively the first of the Cylon 8′s to come nearby to insight humanity. In essence, her story is the mirror image of Boomer’s. I pretty much felt that Helo and Sharon were basically plot tools rather than characters in the final season. They existed naturally as a primary postponement to Hera’s saga. Quite frankly, Helo’s emotional outbursts hadn’t twisted my emotional meter at all. I understand his sense of loss, but quite frankly in his outburst with Adama a join of weeks ago begging to go out on an idiotic suicide quest mission I was just rooting for Olmos to haul off and lay him out cold to shut him the frak up.

o Kara Thrace’s Story. In my non-professional opinion, the conclusion to Kara Thrace’s saga in the finale is one of the big betrayals of the fans by the writers. All this build up to have her be a ghost this whole time? What the frak? So what does this all mean? First, she blew up. Somehow her burnt corpse and viper ends up on “Earth.” How it got there we have no idea. Then, she returns as a ghost. Okay. And apparently she has a ghost ship as well. I have no question with mystery and paranormal elements to the story, but this positively was a waste of our time. On top of this, Lee’s reaction when she vanishes was tantamount to “just another day at the office.” The conclusion and revelation of Kara Thrace’s true nature at the end was about as satisfying as a 16 week course in astrophysics where all 600 pages of the textbook has the words “Goddidit” written 100 times over. It was positively the icing on the cake of where this finale did the fans, or at least me as a fan, wrong. Had I been Ron Moore in the writer’s room and man had recommend that they spend a season with Kara Thrace walking nearby as a ghost I would have fired them on the spot.

o The Opera House, Baltar and Caprica Six. The Opera House allusions and the connection to the finale stretched my skepticism to the limit. However, I did find it all rather satisfying and I was able to accept and enjoy it. Baltar’s insanity since the New Caprica debacle has been a constant source of irritation for me and I feel that they’ve positively allowed the character to ramble aimlessly straight through season 4. His final speech to Cavil in the Galactica Cic, or as we now know, The Opera House, was poignant and appropriate. Basically, it was kind of the equilibrium for fans that prefer not to have overt religion mixed in with their sci-fi. Anything the characters may think at this point, there obviously was some grander plan involved in this mess. For me, until the revelation of Ellen as the final Cylon, it seemed to me that the final Cylon was going to be that final guiding affect toward the conclusion of this story. Quite frankly though, if I had invested 5 years of my life into a saga that was going to end with the final solution being “God has a plan” I could have saved a ton of time and money by just going to church or reading a join of propaganda books on sharp Design. In the end, we’re never positively quite sure what this is all supposed to mean. So what are Head Six and Head Baltar? Are they angels? Demons? Time Travelers? Who the frak knows. Accepting that they were some hand of a divine inventor is the ultimate cop out, though. I don’t mind the pushing of mysticism too much. Connecting all these characters via this recurring dream of the Opera House and the foresight of the final five was okay, but for crying out loud, there is pretty strong infer that I invested hundreds of hours in Galactica in the last few years and spent positively zero seconds watching Touched By an Angel or Highway to Heaven. This is one case where if the explanation had been it was all the plan of the midi-chlorians, I could have swallowed that with less pain.

o Bill Adama and Laura Roslin. I had been dreading this conclusion for a long time now. First, I hate when unnecessary or detrimental romantic relationships are thrown into television shows. Those that enjoy those types of things are ordinarily referred to in a condescending manner as “shippers” in the internet community. This is why I found myself horrified in season 4 when I became one. Galactica had built Roslin and Adama’s connection so slowly and so skillfully over the run of the series that it just felt right. Of course, it makes it all the more tragic that these two had finally found each other with Roslin’s illness and impending demise always looming. We all knew that it was advent in the finale, and Roslin’s final moments were as painful as any moment in television drama I’ve ever experienced. It was handled with skill and care and it all felt just right. This is the best potential outcome for the character of Adama we could have expected. Anything else would just not have rung true. I can’t remember, nor do I expect ever to be as moved as much by a moment in a television agenda as I was by this. Even revisiting it by writing about it brings that twinge of sadness for these fictional characters, and I still have to continue to lobby for Mary McDonnell and the Emmy-worthy work she’s done since the show began and particularly in this final half of season 4. With all the outstanding work that’s been achieved by the cast of this agenda over the years, it was Olmos and McDonnell that elevated this show from great drama to outstanding art over it’s run.

o The “Decision” of the Colonials and Cylons to Start from Scratch. I have a lot of problems with this piece of the plot. I suppose in it’s most simplistic philosophical essence, this was the logical conclusion to the story of “breaking the cycle,” but it positively doesn’t make much sense as the final moments of the agenda 150,000 years later proves. Now that we have these two civilizations that have this whole mess fresh in their heads, do you think that it’s more likely that having technology at hand knowing the danger they can originate with that technology is going to be better or removing all the technology and let the lessons learned from it slowly fade into memory before they reach a new technological era again? The final moments of the agenda kind of answered that. On top of all else, didn’t the other thousands of Cylons and Humans get to have any say in this decision? They made an off-hand mention of disposing of the “creature comforts.” I think that’s just kind of silly. What about medical technology? Do you want to be the first colonist to die of an positively cured malady or disease because your leaders decided to toss all technology into the sun? In addition, I have some other issues with the timetables as well. In the real world, humans weren’t using language and had no sophisticated form of culture or community 80,000 years ago. In far less than 80,000 years we went from something akin to what the colonials and Cylons saw on Earth when they got there to where we are now and where Earth was in the flashforward ending of Daybreak. Now we’ve introduced 30,000 plus humans and who knows how many Cylons into the civilization and genetic pool with scientific knowledge and it takes them 150,000 years to evolve the community to where we are today? Twice as long to evolve than it positively did when you’re starting with a base of tech saavy habitancy mixing with us? I think this was just sloppy investigate by the writer’s staff.

My other minor beef with this is that we finally give Romo Lampkin his due by manufacture him president only to have Adama conclude that they’ll just destroy any semblance of organized and civilized society. Maybe Lampkin’s ultimate fate is to domesticate the household cat rather than be the leader of the world.

I feel that this whole facet of the end of the story was the easy decision for the writers without putting much understanding into it. From a fan standpoint, it did initially seem to make some sort of philosophical sense, but as soon as you start reasoning it straight through logically and from a story buildings standpoint of the characters’ destinies, it just kind of leaves you feeling cold and unsatisfied.

So as I rate the finale I do in some sense feel robbed of a real resolution by Ron Moore playing the “God” card in the end. It didn’t feel right and it felt like a cheap way out. I was practically expecting Kirk Cameron to emerge from the woods retention a banana by the end of the story (Google Kirk Cameron and Banana or hunt it up on YouTube to see some astonishingly ignorant logic if you don’t understand the reference).

Even with my philosophical and logical problems with Daybreak, I can’t walk away too distraught over this. For the most part, the finale was an awesome spectacle giving us by far one of the most space battles we’ve seen in the series run if not seen in the history of television sci-fi. We also got some powerfully emotional moments and some astonishing closure on some of the characters we’ve grown very close to over the years. I’m going to give Ron Moore and the team a huge pass on the things I positively feel cheated by at this point. Above all else, I do feel that he’s given me personally some of the most entertainment I’ve had in years. Galactica has been a far out sci-fi agenda that was gritty and dark while giving us characters and situations that we could divulge to and understand. In the end, it was the “human” element so to speak that made this all work. I am going to miss this show. If I there is no other infer to applaud the work that’s been done on it since the premier, I would have to say that this is the finest example of a agenda going out on top that I’ve ever seen. So say we all.

She pouted in the shadows beside the winding two-lane blacktop. Her gray weathered planks were held in place by Lucky Strike, Orange Crush and limited Miss Sunbeam, hugging a loaf of bread. Old men…others in their thirties…sat on up-turned crates on the rickety front porch, whittling their philosophies of life from bits of wood. Inside, amidst the sixty-watt shadows, the heavenly aroma of fresh bread and cakes mingled with the faint scent of kerosene from the barrels out back. The ice cream freezer and soft drink cooler sat side by side, whispering like old friends…

Earl Tilson’s Grocery in the Chestoa community of Unicoi County during the fifties and sixties was only one of the many country market that graced each small neighborhood during those days. during that time period, roughly every rural community had a store, a church and a school, all within walking distance to the folks who lived in the neighborhood. Each store was unique in its own way, reflective of the owner, but some things were same in all of them: That definite indefinable mix of sounds and smells, the dimly lit interiors and the cordial atmosphere could be found in each limited country store, no matter where it was located.

Heavenly Cakes

Traveling into town was something the rural folks did only once or twice a month. Very few women owned cars or even knew how to drive. And for person without a car, “Downtown” might just as well have been a million miles away.

It was nothing unusual for a parent to send their six-year-old children to the store for a loaf of bread, all by themselves. Everyone knew Everyone else in the community and the parents watched out for all the neighborhood children. A loaf of bread could be bought for a quarter, and most of the time there were a few pennies extra for a candy bar or an ice cream for the child to enjoy during the walk home.

Soft drinks were available only in “returnable” bottles back then. The bottles were sent back to the soft drink bottling companies to be recycled. They could be returned to the store and the storekeeper would buy them back for a penny or a nickel each. One good day of collecting discarded drink bottles and returning them to the store netted a child more than enough to buy a sack full of their beloved candy, such as Kits or B-B Bats, (delicious fruit flavored taffy candy) which were sold two for a penny, or Sugar Daddies, Sugar Babies, Bazooka Bubble Gum, Moon Pies, Candy Cigarettes that were made to look like the real thing and tasted like peppermint, and so many other marvelous treats, some of which have become “extinct” over the years.

The limited country store was the hub of the community for decades. A visit to the store was a pleasure for the children and a pleasant chore for the women. It served as a conference place for the men in the neighborhood, where they discussed the weather and argued about politics, religion, and which was the best Tv western, Gunsmoke or Wagon Train. The outcome of many government determination has been shaped, not in city halls or campaign rallies, but right there on the porches of these old stores. Many neighborhood problems have been solved by its citizens who discussed things rationally over a cold drink and a bologna sandwich, while lounging on milk crates or on the steps of these often dilapidated buildings. These country establishments were more than a place to buy food and other necessities…they were the group centers for the men in the neighborhood. A place for them to share news and views on national and local events.

All those limited country market are gone now, they have been substituted by contemporary “quick-stop” markets that all look the same except for the people behind the counters. The glaring fluorescent lights and spacious aisles leave nothing to inspire awe in a child. The ‘country store’ atmosphere is gone and so are the marvelous sounds and smells and the tempting treats that a child could buy for a nickel and a integrate of pennies. They have no front porches and no friends regain to whittle and discuss politics and weather. But they will live on forever in the hearts of those who remember them.

Our zodiacal Sun Sign is known by the day and the month of birth. The Rising Sign agreeing to the hour and dinky of that day. Then we reconsider where the planets are positioned in the Chart in the areas known as the Houses.

A ‘house’ is the name given for each of the twelve divisions of 30° in the 360° circular Astrological Chart. Like slices of a cake, each serves to indicate a part or area in mapping the heavens and is used to article the position of the planets at one’s time of birth. This is calculated through the aid of an Ephemeris. data must then be adjusted to conditions pertaining at the time and the actual geographic location of the place of birth.

When your Astrological Chart is drawn up by the astrologer agreeing to the data you have given of your birth date, time of birth and also the place of birth it appears as a large circular disc with a smaller one in the centre in which the private is symbolically placed. The larger circle or 360° is regularly equally divided into 12 segments of 30° . Each of the 12 segments is known as a ‘house’ with the first one being that on the left and in sequence going anticlockwise the following houses are numbered and named accordingly, establishing the 12th house as the segment on the left, immediately above the horizon. The House division remains constant although there are emerging two separate schools of notion as to how the 360° should be divided – equally or unequally. For the present take the original placement with the First house as the first 30º in the horoscope below the horizon on the left hand side of the circle.

At the starting of each house is one of the zodiacal signs which dominates that single area. The ruling or dominant sign governing the First House, once having been established by vast calculation, is located on the Chart on the left hand horizontal and this is called your ‘Rising Sign’. Your Rising Sign will occupy the First House in part or totally, depending upon the degree shown at your birth. The Rising Sign is considered to be of major point as a factor in one’s chart. It indicates your physical make up and constitution and your material circumstances.

The Houses are categorically positions along the ecliptic where the planets can be found on any date or time agreeing to the calculations of astronomers and the records of the Ephemeris. during a single day there is dinky change in placement except for the fast entertaining bodies of the Sun and the Moon which have a superior work on upon the chart. Because of earth’s rotation and a new zodiacal sign is rising above the horizon every two hours it becomes distinct that for accuracy, it important to know the exact hour and minute, if that is possible, of one’s ‘first breath’.

Each house is comprised of 30° and is found to work on and report a estimate of specific human interests and activities. The division of the astrological chart into these 12 houses is a vital part of the understanding of how these released energies are likely to work on the personality and circumstances and the human psyche. Such knowledge has been gained by long feel and observations over thousands of years of human culture and its study continues.

Interpretation must be undertaken with the total chart in mind, with the astrologer reducing some of the complexity to straightforward factors for the clarification of the private concerned.

A planet located in the 1st house was passing through that part of the heavens at that hour and will work on the original characteristics of that House. It can moderate, intensify or complicate the energies and events associated to that House. For instance, if the aggressive Aries sign is rising and there is a planet such as diffusive and vague Neptune located in that sign, this will tend to be a factor which indicates the private to have a more kind and sympathetic outer personality than is ordinarily evident in an Aries person. Or maybe the work on of Neptune will turn the adventurous and pioneering Arian nature to study the subtler, more nebulous or non-material aspects of life.

It is prominent to understand the general indications and implications of the planetary positions in the separate houses or signs. It is also a factor in interpretation, either the majority of planets fall in the houses of the Northern Hemisphere, or the South, relative to the individual’s occasion and place of birth. It is considered that if the planets are located in the Chart to appear above the horizon the life will be more extrovert and active than that where the majority of planets are below the horizon. Some contemplate that if the planets fall in the eastern houses it indicates greater self sufficiency and in the west, greater dependence upon others. There are many generalities associated with this branch and supplementary investigation is ongoing.

All the natural energies which are represented in the Astrological Chart provide an indiscernible ‘climate’ in which the private applies his entertaining understanding of life and his free will. Although in many cases a wise astrologer can predict events, because of single superior influences which are evident, they will be more inclined to help an private to self awareness of the tool and talents which are uppermost and of their weaknesses which are to be overcome.

The Houses have each their own point in human affairs and are said to govern single aspects and activities, character traits and even spiritual matters. Their rulership and how the House affects the private will be modified or affected by any planets within that House. The interplanetary connection which is described in terms of ‘aspects’ is also prominent when interpreting the signs. There are many factors to reconsider in the complexity which comprises the private method described in the astrological chart of a person. It requires great feel to be able to take each factor into account and to weigh one vigor against another. special aspects of determination are made easier by the single interests and concern of the private himself. For instance, a tasteless enquiry is with regard to relationships and the branch of marriage. To acknowledge this, the astrologer will tend to reconsider the indicators of the 5th, 7th and the 8th houses. The signs on the cusps of these Houses will give an indication of what is in store.

Influence Of The Twelve Houses

1st House (This is the first 30° segment about to rise above the left horizon of the chart which represents the east.)
9th House doctrine – travels of the mind – travels of the body- doctrine and religion – aspiration – religion — doctrine – imagination – long journeys- – expansion – mind and physical adventures- religion – philanthropy – legal profession- visionary -science – spiritual matters -devotion.

It is an indication of the end of one’s life.

Beauty is truth’s smile

when she beholds her own face in a exquisite mirror.

Beauty is in the ideal of exquisite harmony

which is in the universal being;

truth the exquisite insight of the universal mind.

Heavenly Cakes

— Rabindranath Tagore

The entire plan of real beauty can be hard to define, despite being a well-known term. Everybody has their own opinions about what constitutes real beauty. One way to think about it is to consider what makes you smile in such a radiant way that it attracts habitancy to want to be in your presence. Ideal beauty is that which is admired or possesses features widely attributed to beauty in a particular culture for perfection.

Just like Audrey Hepburn’s iconic quote:

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.

For gorgeous hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

There would be hardly any someone who would not like to look beautiful. Over a period of time beauty moderately fades away owing to age and what’s left are signs of aging. To combat these signs, habitancy use numerous methods like anti-aging creams, Botox, among others. They seek to keep their beauty (which they believe is physical) intact for as long as possible. This is how they fool themselves into believing that they are a thing of beauty. They earn to be dazzling and remain the centre of attraction.

Fair complexion, sharp features are not the only criteria for being beauteous. These are external factors. External beauty is like water bubble, exists only for some time. Apart from the face secret behind those layers of makeup, there is a heart; sublime, full of love and related to your mind. That is real contentment. You need to make yourself comely to perceive the real beauty.

Helen Keller said, “The most gorgeous things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.” Every particular character existing on the earth is born beautiful. Moral qualities, ethical standards, law are added benefit to real beauty. Intellect and intelligence with beauty is a rare quality. And when someone has internal and external beauty it is ‘icing on the cake’. beauty and youth are often regarded as synonymous to each other. Equilibrium of body and soul is much leading than using a wrinkle removing cream.

Let me run ideas through my mind and see where it takes me. Let’s consider good-looking people, places, objects, marvelous scenario’s at a gallery, perceptional distinct angled picture or let’s drill down to a more materialistic living like the marvelous architecture of my bungalow, with a balcony over-looking a serene swimming pool. I have mouth-watering food sitting on a table beside me, sending out the most heavenly aroma that is attractive to the mind, and tickling my taste buds.

I could go on with more article but it would be painfully mundane to read, which is why I’ll leave it as “blah blah blah.”

Having seen life under best circumstances with best resources (mom//dad/bro/friends/teacher/ money… & what not) with best living conditions & then having fallen away & apart with these things temporarily, to get it back in a new format & living terms, I perceive that beauty is a very relative terminology, quite misunderstood & I dare say, quite misapplied too.

So then what’s real beauty for me?

I think & believe that the real beauty is to perceive that I am able to realize, think, analyze, decimate, disintegrate, learn – unlearn, believe & still redefine my belief law or call it fine tune.

The real beauty therefore is that I am a human, which is the gift of nature, and I am able to perceive that there is God in many forms & functions, many of his manifestation are even called bad & I am mutely looking at it to understand what nature is telling me.

And the real beauty based on the above idea for me is knowledge; the assimilation of distinct pieces of information, when put in a logical manner is invaluable knowledge.

Knowledge alone is real beauty.

Having said this, I want to say that if I place a book of esoteric knowledge of yore & some fine prints of wisdom on a donkey’s head he does not become knowledgeable. What will make him knowledgeable is the right application of that knowledge in the right place, in the right measure, at the right time, and how does one get it apart nature’s Grace? One gets it through the guru – the proverbial teacher.

Hence the Guru or the trainer is the real beauty

The teacher, who gave me insight and perception, of what is what & how to see it. If not for the right teacher, I could still think that 2 + 2 = 5 and still live like a donkey without realizing the 2 = 2 of life.

And who gave me the teacher? That’s a blind riposte – my Dad. He put me through education both formal & informal & while giving me this he gave me as a bonus a bunch of friends from school to college, which I would filter over a period of time through perceive & maturity.

Hence father is the real beauty.

And who gave me my father? My mom pointed him out, because she is the only human who certainly knows the truth of whose seed made me. We all know the mom’s journey of parenting. Let me not make it emotionally touchy & by comparison on it, we all know what our mom’s are. Period.

Hence my mother is real beauty.

Now tell me how do I get a good mom, I can’t make a choice, certainly no one took my permission to give me this birth – certainly choiceless.

So the real beauty is the fact that I perceive that there is someone up there taking care of my soul.

Mata, pita, guru, good mitra (Friend) & god are the real beauty – put them all & mix it – it’s god’s grace.

I perceive that I am a unique creation of this nature, none like me & second to none, no one has ever been created like me in eons that have passed by in this universe & there never will be one like me in the time to come of this universe. I am me, I am a blessing of my parents, I am the good wishes of my well wisher’s, I am the hope of all those new tomorrow’s that will unfold through me, I am the child of gratitude, the mother of all virtue’s – I am Rewa and the real beauty is I can perceive it.

For me Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, Miss World Aishwarya Bachchan are equally gorgeous to Maharani Gayatri Devi, mother Teresa, Medha Patkar, Kiran Bedi, Lata Mangeshkar or a rural women working in the field all day yet efficiently takes care of her small world. beauty is so divine that it inspired Kalidas to write Meghdoot and Tulsidas to originate Ramayan.

Summary is God’s ever gorgeous creation is Woman who nurtures and creates a new life.

Satyam Shivam Sundaram – Truth is God and God is beautiful

 Real charm – Bliss!

After living there for three short but sweet years, I learned that Chattanooga, or Chattie as I affectionately call it, is a splendid place to live and visit.

Where to begin? For history buffs, there are countless landmarks in the area, commemorating events that changed the policy of American history, from the Trail of Tears to the Civil War battles in and colse to Chattanooga. For families with young children in tow, there’s the spectacular Tennessee Aquarium, the Creative Discovery Museum, Coolidge Park with its lovely fountain and aged carousel, and Ruby Falls-an underground waterfall reached by guided tour through narrow caverns and passageways. For outdoor enthusiasts, there’s the promise of a place often called the “Boulder, Colorado of the East;” rock climbing, fly fishing, cycling, hang gliding, hiking, rafting, and so much more await the adventurous.

Heavenly Cakes

What I’m gift here is an itinerary for a three-day getaway to Chattanooga. It’s an performance guide that has passed the test of many visits from our family and friends, and it includes our favorite places that we try to re-visit on our trips back. Three days fill up quickly in Chattanooga, so you should know that for every place that follows, there are at least five other alternative attractions or activities. Also, this itinerary assumes that you’ve awakened in Chattanooga on day one. I suggest that you wake up in the Bluff View Inn, found in the town’s favorite Bluff View Arts District.

Bluff View Inn is perched overlooking the Tennessee River, which flows below through uptown Chattanooga. Within a minute’s walk from the inn (and that’s not an exaggeration), there’s the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Houston Museum of decorative Art, a model garden, a bocce ball court, an art gallery, three restaurants, a thirteen-mile practice trail that follows the river upstream to Lake Chickamauga, and Walnut street Bridge, one of the world’s longest pedestrian bridges.

Another lodging selection that’s relatively new to Chattanooga is the Delta Queen steamboat, which retired to life as a floating boutique hotel. Hotel guests and tourists can board the Queen from Coolidge Park and bask in the brass maritime history of it all.

Day One: Signal Mountain and the North Shore

Rembrandt’s Café in the Bluff View Arts District makes a great starting point in Chattanooga, so think this hot-spot for morning meal on your first full day in the Scenic City. Locals love and frequent this place just as much as tourists. The display cases are full of morning meal and dessert pastries, chocolates, pies and cakes, while the menu offers paninis, soups and salads. For breakfast, you can’t do great than an almond croissant. Take it face and enjoy their beautiful patio seating.

Next, head up to Signal Mountain, a ten-minute drive from uptown Chattanooga. Our visitors particularly loved the “W” road that sharply zigs and zags its way up the rocky side of the mountain-a vertical road if I’ve ever been on one. Once you’ve made it to the top, think driving north along East Brow Road for beautiful homes on the left, and a splendid view of the valley below on the right. Then, turn south on Highway 127 and head to the “old towne” area of Signal Point. The streets here are lined with quaint stone cottages and magnificent estates, and you can still see the tracks of the streetcar that used to run through this neighborhood. The area here was industrialized at the turn of the twentieth century as an flee from diseases, namely cholera and yellow fever, in the valley below.

When you’ve had enough of the car and historic home viewing, take a rest stop at Signal Point Park. From this spot, you can look down on the lush and verdant Tennessee River gorge and forget that civilization is nearby. Park signage explains that Signal Point was part of a signaling system used by Native Americans first, then Union troops during the Civil War. Depending on your vigor level at this point, you could embark on a hike from the park. The Cumberland Trail, part of the Great Eastern Trail, starts at this park, and it’s a remarkable walk through mountainside woods.

There are a incorporate of options for lunch on Signal Mountain, but I’d head back down the mountain for lunch in the North Shore area. Two of our favorite spots were the River street Deli for splendid muffulettas, Stromboli, and Brooklyn accents; or Mercantino for an climate that can’t be beat. And once you’ve parked near the performance on the North Shore (that would be Frazier Avenue), you can leave your car behind for hours.

Hit the boutiques after lunch, being sure not to miss Blue Skies, Plum Nelly, and Sophie’s. It is impossible to enter any one of these three market and leave empty-handed, so just give in. Treat yourself or a friend to vintage style, unique home and personal accessories, handcrafted jewelry, glass, and ceramics. These three stores, plus the many other businesses along Frazier-including a local bookstore, an outdoors outfitter, and art galleries-are gift-givers heaven.

When you need a break from shopping, pick up a treat from Clumpies Ice Cream and wander over to Coolidge Park overlooking the river. You’ll be surrounded by people of all ages as they play in the fountain, toss Frisbees and footballs, and relax inside a splendid urban green space. While there, you can see if there are any plays to catch during your stay-the Chattanooga Theatre Centre sits just on the edge of the park.

For dinner, the Boathouse Rotisserie and Raw Bar is a great choice, and it’s only a five-minute car drive from downtown. They serve Louisiana oysters and other great seafood (the wood-grilled tilapia is outstanding), and, oddly enough, their Mexican dishes-especially the quesadillas-are just as popular. If you have room for an appetizer, the Mexican shrimp cocktail is unforgettable. The Boathouse sits right on the Tennessee River, and they’ve got plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the water.

Day Two: The Great Outdoors

A trip to Chattanooga without some kind of outdoor adventure is a missed opportunity. It’s kind of like going to New York City without looking a play-you’ve missed a key element of the local culture. Fuel up with a hearty morning meal from Bluegrass Grill on Main Street. This family-owned bistro packs people in starting at 6:30 am for omelettes and tasty variations of hash. Load up on carbs; you’ll need them today.

For peace and quiet, a guided fly fishing trip is an perfect excursion, as is a nice-and-easy float down the Hiwassee River in an inflatable kayak or raft. We also enjoyed walking the allinclusive trails of Chickamauga Battlefield, part of the country’s very first national troops park. There’s a seven-mile auto tour of the battlefield, but on foot or on bike is the best way to feel the beauty and historical significance of this land. And the terrain here is relatively flat, a huge plus for those of us from elevation-challenged regions.

For the more adventurous, there’s the aforementioned Cumberland Trail on Signal Mountain, or scores of other fun hiking trails on guard Mountain. We never got the opportunity to go, but Cloudland Canyon State Park-just over the border in Georgia-is supposed to be breathtakingly beautiful in an area referred to as “God’s Country.” Trails there range from two to practically seven miles, and there’s a 600-step staircase for hikers making the trip to the bottom of the park’s gorge.

Bold outdoors enthusiasts will be glad to know that Chattanooga is determined the regional rock climbing capital, and it attracts mountain bikers from all over. Prentice Cooper State Forest is one of many options for both of these activities. Please, oh please, do not effort to climb rocks without a guide. On water, the Ocoee River offers the sought-after near-death rafting experience. Yes, I belief I was going to die on the upper Ocoee. Twice. But it’s fun if you’re into that kind of thing (jury is still out for me). Some of the more endearing names of the Ocoee’s Class Iv+ rapids are “Broken Nose,” “Diamond Splitter” and “Hell’s Hole.” Finally, those who aren’t curious in land or water activities can try hang gliding off the side of guard Mountain. I couldn’t bring myself to strap into a glorified kite, but two friends from France did, and they said it was chouette.

After a day spent in the great outdoors, a shower and a satisfying dinner are in order. As your body will not want to stray too far from its bed at the Bluff View Inn, wander colse to the corner to Tony’s for an Italian dinner. The climate is one that troops you to linger long after the meal is done, especially if you’re lucky enough to score a table on the second-floor terrace. A green salad with their roasted tomato tarragon dressing and all of the pasta dishes are reliably delicious.

Day Three: guard Mountain, Southside and Downtown

Between the hotel and guard Mountain lies Niedlov’s Breadworks, which has splendid cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones-come to think of it, everything at Niedlov’s is good. The artisan-owners “love to knead and knead to love,” and you can taste the baked-in passion. Give it a try for morning meal this morning.

There are several roads that take you up to the top of guard Mountain; each one is scenic, so pick one for the ride up and other for the ride down. Once you’re up there, take in the beautiful views and mansions, especially those along West Brow Road. (This exploration of guard Mountain sounds a lot like the first day’s Signal Mountain itinerary; but if the residential area of Signal Mountain is charming and accessible, guard Mountain is caviar dreams. Each mountain is worth a visit as they offer dissimilar clues into Chattanooga’s culture.)

Lookout’s Point Park-not to be confused with Signal Point Park-is a must as an legitimately accessible part of the guard Mountain Battlefield. A small museum just across the street will justify the very Lord of the Rings-sounding “Battle Above the Clouds” that took place on the mountain during the Civil War. other treasure on guard Mountain is the Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden, which offers driving and hiking trails through a bucolic setting of meadows, wildflowers, forest, ponds and creeks.

After a mountaintop morning, Mojo Burrito-at the foot of guard Mountain in the lovely historic neighborhood of St. Elmo-brings you back to earth with tortillas wrapped colse to super fresh ingredients. Southern Star located in the Southside neighborhood also keeps it real with true southern home cooking. Don’t skip dessert-the banana pudding leaves you speechless.

While you’re in the Southside neighborhood, there are four shops that are very much worth a visit. Revival is located inside storage Row, and although I couldn’t afford much from this store, I had fun just being in the proximity of its greatness. Just like any luxury goods store, you can find table accessories by Juliska and pewter by Match. But what sets this store in a league of its own is a beautifully curated variety of home furnishings, from eighteenth century white leather Italian chairs to contemporary Belgian coffee tables. You’ll eye home develop elements in Revival that you never knew you wanted. Shadow Box Paperie on Main street will make you put pen to paper and renounce all forms of electronic communication. They have other home accessories, too, all wonderfully presented. For serious antique-lovers, Southside Antiques is an primary stop-gorgeous corner cabinets, dining tables, aged books, and armoires. Finally, the Galleries at Southside, much like The Foyer in Baton Rouge, is a variety of vendors under one roof, selling gifts, accessories, art and antiques at many price points.

In the late afternoon, head back to the inn to park your car and take advantage of the splendid pedestrian activities in uptown Chattanooga. Visit the model orchad and spend time over the river on one of the Walnut street Bridge benches. The bridge was converted to pedestrian use in 1993, and much like the Pont des Arts in Paris, people can’t get enough of bridge time. Suspended above the Tennessee River, they exercise, originate art, regain for festivals, commute to work on bike, and yes, they snuggle here as if they were in Paris.

Leave enough time before sunset to feel The tube and Ross’s Landing Plaza, a Cherokee nation and Trail of Tears memorial located adjacent to the Tennessee Aquarium. The Cherokee inhabited this area that would come to be first Ross’s Landing, then Chattanooga, until they were forced West on the Trail of Tears. Thousands died during the horrific journey. At this memorial, you’ll find challenging quotes by Cherokee and American leaders at the time of the native removal.

For dinner on your last night in Chattanooga, you may as well have a blow out. St. John’s bistro is as flawless a bistro as I’ve ever experienced. Chef Daniel Lindley was nominated for the James Beard award this year and last, and you’ll know why after just one meal at St. John’s. From his kitchen come the finest ingredients available, many of them organic and local, and the menu changes often to reflect growing seasons. The current menu includes handcrafted quail tortellini, Kobe beef steak, and chocolate molten cake. The aid is dreamy, the flat iron construction is a beauty, and everybody leaves happy.

And everybody leaves Chattanooga happy, though I was also kicking, screaming and crying the day my husband and I said goodbye to our hilltop North Chattanooga home. My husband says I’m projecting, but I swear that even our dog misses Chattanooga. The pull of family and old friends brought us home to Louisiana, and we are of policy glad to be back home among them, but we will be returning to Chattanooga as often as we can for the rest of our lives. It’s that kind of place.

I Left My Heart in Chattanooga

Now stay with me for a while longer Anna, and I think you will get the full picture of this entity, or at least, some of it before we get into the letters, journals and diaries that lay ahead: the data I have found for you throughout the world, i.e.: England, New Orleans, Minnesota, and a few other places. And thank you for paying me in strengthen the ,000; of policy it’s all gone now, the trips and hotels were expensive, but nonetheless, I became quite imprinted with the objective to unfold this strangeness for you, while on this journey.

When the pit was first created, strangely enough, it was never opened by the angelic renegades [for some suspect they knew better, for they genuinely knew of it]. These angelic-beings were originally,–the angels whom came down from the clouds, who were assigned initially to watch over mankind, but decided for lustful reasons to cohabitate with women, and so step by step, by and by, they made their way to the outside (they were beings of no ethics; and no doubt, on the point of impartiality–could care less for humans: which should be of no value to us one way or the other, for they are long gone ((yet I bring them forth as a new acquaintance)). Some have said, and it was not me who said it, God plants his holy angels in spots they will be tempted and then punishes them when they fault. Well, that is exactly what they did–fault. development a pack among themselves, all two-hundred of them decided to come down to earth and that should the Almighty get angry and decide to punish them, they ‘all were one, and one for all.’ In other words: Azaz’el, and Amazes [the leaders], made it known, they were not going to be the only ducks in the pond–when and if there was a time to pay the penalty; or should I say, the only ones in the courtroom should the Almighty get upset and come hunting for them, hunting for them like a wolf hungry for revenge and put them on trial; so those two wanted the rest to go down with them to the outside of the earth to rule it. And again I say for remembrance sake, they made a pack, a bondage with one another, and literately came down to earth, and took the women from whomever they pleased, be it: wives, daughters, children (boy or girls), for pleasure, and ruled the world as they seen fit. They ended up having huge sons, which became gods among men, and whom had war with one another, killing off their own race of giants eventually. But I am getting a miniature too far off the main menu, let me get re-focused.

Heavenly Cakes

ĂĢ

(Tape still playing.) Let me interpret a miniature about these angelic beings before going on with the Abyss Virus Worm [s], ok, Anna, ok then. Anyhow, from the clouds they descended onto the summit of Mount Hermon; –Semyaz being the whole one leader of the two-hundred–stood tall in the brief twilight for all to see him. And as I understood–as he stood there, he reminded the two-hundred they had swore an oath and were bound to each other accordingly: that everyone, –that is, everyone among them, swore to the curse, not to abandon what they had planned, which was not only to cohabitate with the females, but to rule the earth as gods together: Titans one might visualize them as; hence, becoming legends for Atlantis, and for the Greeks to tell tales about: –for example, Gilgamesh’s heritage (in old Sumer (for he was two-thirds god and one third human), and his priestess Shamhat, the one he sent to subdue Enkidu, the wild man from the Cedar Forest; in which she did; and to be quite frank, he was half demonic himself, a beast similar to the demon Vii, whom is three-fourths demonic (and I should add at this juncture, demons or demonic beings, are not like angelic beings; they are from the Pre-Satanic era, when Satan, then called Lucifer, ruled the Earth with God’s blessing; and then–when Lucifer built his Army, he was kicked out of heaven for revolting, thus, the inhabitants of the earth which were angelic beings at the time, and those so called beings of another kind ((alien-men of sorts, so I shall call them that for a brief moment–, became devil-men, or men of the devil: and were branded (or given) that name ever since)).

Now as I was about to say, and I should say for the women’s liberation movement, had there not been a Shamhat, who had become the Temple Priestesses [back in the days of Gilgamesh], there would not have been an Epic of Gilgamish to read in our libraries today; but again I find my fancies of aged history getting in my way of my real assignment which of policy is you per se. As I was about to lead into: Semyas had with him seventeen-followers, and there were the rest of course, but not all directly under his command, save for one fact, indirectly one might say he was the Commander and Chief commonly speaking. And in chronic this area of thought, things were run a miniature dissimilar back then. Nonetheless these unethical angelic beings such as: Amasras taught incantations, Asder’el taught the policy of the moon, and deception, –Azaz’el one of the most troublesome of the lot, revealed eternal secrets of heaven to the earthlings. And Michael and Gabriel, whom have become known as the: ‘Good’ vs. ‘Bad,’ angels observed determined from the sky, and saw much blood being shed upon the earth; as they oppressed all other beings without much effort. I might add; similar to your Superman, and Hawkman, comics of today–but these were real, I mean very real super-beings.

And to make a long story shorter, Raphael, bound Azaz’el and throw him into darkness, development a hole in the desert and putting sharp rocks over him, subsequently he could not see the light of day and was bound to his cramped quarters–bound like a paralyzing snake bite. And accordingly, some of these angelic-renegades were cast into the sands of the desert, and the majorities were cast into the great cavity of the earth, the hole in the ground, the pit. And the children of these beings somewhat died out, leaving their gene pool behind-slightly: those were the very giants I was talking about a occasion ago.

The sin was three fold; it was eternal angelic beings that defiled themselves with those women, blood and flesh, and their lust produced children. This blend went against the creation of heaven like gravity to man. For spiritual beings, heaven is heaven for them, and for the flesh, heaven can be sex on earth, until we get to heaven, which then we will be spiritual beings–if that makes sense? Now let’s take this to the angelic level, the graphic world, which is of course, sexual intercourse with a woman, for men on earth, in consequence, the beings wanted both, heaven on earth and heaven in heaven–it sounds a miniature like mankind does it not? Be that as it may, they found it, but in the policy of seeing it, lost heaven. As the old saying goes, ‘…you can’t have your cake and eat it to.’ But I would guess they got tired of the same old heaven in heaven, and God’s temptation just became too appetizing, like the apple Eve ate in the orchad of Eden. Kind of like when I was a boy, I wanted to fly like an angel; you know what I mean, like superman, that sort of person: like these beings were. So you see, we just can’t have it both ways; –one or the other, yet as a human we can dream and there we can fly, I suppose: maybe God did that on purpose to suspend a fancy dream that was untouchable to annoy us. But I investment we both had similar dreams, meaning, the angelic beings, dreamed about having sex, and I dreamed about flying like them, as I have already mentioned. Or better put, I’d prefer the superhuman qualities, to simply having a diet of sex. A matter of preference I suppose.

3

Abyss Worms

These creatures with purple eyes: which have a reddish and orange tone to their skin, I call: the “Abyss Virus Worms,” in lack of a better term; or again I repeat myself, “Crazy Worm [s],” whence–for the most part–they were inaccessible to mankind or even beasts on the outside of the earth until after the abyss was created, and thereafter opened; as well as other creatures in the crust of the earth knew nothing about them, which I doubt there were any others at such depths anyhow. And if there were, I’m sure it was not to their fondness, and fast were infected and died. Furthermore, to get to these beast type worms, one would have to be quite squirmy like worms, similar to a small reptile without legs (for there was a time when snakes did have legs you know, and were able to drill tons of pressure from the earth upon them. Taking this all into account, such an adventure, one would have to have a roadmap to and through the pit (along with a road, so as not to get lost on the way–if that makes sense), this all sounds silly I suppose, but silly or not, it is only impractical when you can come up with a truer version, in any form, and so, in any case, I will continue on with this line of thinking, that is, within the pit, and of course, none of what I say exists, –to my knowledge that is, although I think the pit might be compared with/or to the Grand Canyon.

In closing Anna, to this area of deliberation and study I have researched out to inform you about, let me say, or let’s say if ‘I’, for instance wanted to go find this long lost pit, or abyss–if you will, I would have to get into (inside of, that is) a thin reptile-snake resembling beast as I have earlier mentioned, of which I’d not feel too comfortable, or for that matter, feel too safe. And then we’d have to squirm our way to the pit, hoping we could go a few hundred miles an hour as it would take a year or two; and if we did find the pit, what would we do there besides? A rhetorical demand at best; and how would we get back to the outside of the earth? So this is what has flown in and out of my brain like a dead bird crashing at times, yes, it was out of the demand for me to go find the pit, but not out of my mind, which was to learn about it, so I examined this line of thinking. You see, all this fine data I contribute you with! I shall give you more than most habitancy will ever know on this subject.

(Anna at this point is unsettled, wiping her eyes, had just listened to the first tape sent to her by the investigator; she leans back to rest on her bed–listening to the last few lines over again, hoping to citation something out of it that can be used against the curse that has been put upon her, and her family for generations.

She has pale blue-eyes (at this moment), tired eyes for the most part–caravansary–she moves about on her bed, as if friction was nauseating her, that of the tape a serious lively face–a crucifix over her bed, she smiles–afraid to ask herself a question, in fear she’d need too simply ask more questions thereafter. She leaves that area of plan alone–. She leans back against the bed now, a pillow supporting her back, and pushes a button–to adjust the bed.)

Having a sweet tooth is so underrated. Pizza–delicious. Cheeseburgers and fries–yes, please. But if you beyond doubt want to indulge, nothing beats a flourless chocolate cake, bread pudding with extra caramel sauce or a slice of pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Why not do as writer Ernestine Ulmer once said, “Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first”? After all, ’tis the season for retention warm via relax food. There are many underground treasures, along with restaurants already known for their sweets, and they are all right in your backyard. Here are some great desserts to live, or maybe die, for.

Hot Chocolate

Heavenly Cakes

1747 N. Damen, 773-489-1747

Although the name suggests otherwise, there’s something for chocolate and non-chocolate lovers alike at this sleek and hip, Bucktown hotspot. Mindy Segal, Mk alumna and acclaimed pastry chef, centers the menu around remarkable desserts, but there are also solid brunch and supper options, such as a hamburger made with farm-raised beef and aged cheddar, a tuna melt and entrees together with free-range chicken and fresh fish. Chocolate lovers won’t have a hard time ordering dessert here, as there are several cocoa-heavy treats like the “percentages.” The Chocolate 72% is a chocolate fudge mint cake that tastes like a rich brownie made of Girl Scout Thin Mints, accompanied by more fudge mint in the form of a small, shooter-sized shake. Other winner is the Chocolate 35%, a rich, Valrhona milk chocolate and peanut mousse terrine that has a caramel center and sides of peanut fragile and malted milk foam. Too much? How about just a cup of the predominant house hot chocolate made with real cocoa and marshmallows. Or opt for one of the fruity desserts, such as the Black and Blue, a sandwich made with citrus shortbread and lemon curd, served with sour cream sorbet and poached, organic blueberries and blackberries.

Osteria di Tramonto

601 N. Milwaukee, Wheeling, 847-777-6570

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they must try something sweet made by Gale Gand, pastry queen of Chicago–and the country, for that matter. Gand’s stellar reputation and award-winning prowess comes from her success as menagerial pastry chef at Tru, the legendary, four-star uptown bistro she runs with longtime culinary partner and acclaimed chef Rick Tramonto. Gand also hosts “Sweet Dreams” on the Food Network. Now, she and Tramonto have teamed up to open this piquant Italian bistro tucked in the Westin Chicago North Shore hotel. Ordering at least two of Gand’s ethereal desserts here are a must. If in a bind over which to pick, try this: close your eyes and point to anyone on the menu–you’re guaranteed to wind up with something extraordinary. The profiteroles, four pastry shells filled with unique flavors of gelato, such as caramel, hazelnut or espresso, are all doused in a rich, warm chocolate sauce. Or try the orange ricotta cannoli–deep-fried wonton shells filled with citrusy ricotta, atop a dusting of pistachios and white and dark chocolate shavings for dipping. With a buttery crust, seasonal apples, a silky-rich caramel sauce and vanilla gelato, the apple crostata is Other crowd favorite.

Sweets and Savories

1534 W. Fullerton, 773-281-6778

At this cozy, intimate spot in Lincoln Park, the menu lives up to the restaurant’s name. Sweet chocolate finds its way into a savory beef tenderloin dish, mashed potatoes mix with mascarpone and a fig “ketchup” accompanies duck fat fries. And the sweet stuff doesn’t stop there–David Richards, menagerial chef, is also known for his scrumptious desserts. A bestseller is the chocolate fondant cake–a warm, molten chocolate cake baked to order and accompanied by a scoop of chocolate sorbet and generous drizzling of rich chocolate ganache sauce. Other beloved is the milk chocolate, warm pecan pie with a burnt caramel- and brandy-accented soft center, marbled with melted chocolate and large pecan chunks and enveloped by a flaky butter crust. That alone would be superb, but the pie is then topped with a scoop of cocoa-dusted, Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream, which balances the sweetness of the caramel sauce on the plate.

Angelina Restaurante

3561 N. Broadway, 773-935-5933

You truly have not lived or you haven’t lived well until you’ve had the bread pudding at this romantic, underground gem in East Lakeview, which serves homemade and authentic Italian fare. Their customary Italian bread pudding has a milk chocolate twist. Many bread puddings can be soggy and too wet, but this pudding stays semi-firm, yet moist and rich, studded with the chocolate chunks, which, having only slightly melted, enunciate their shape and add a surprise factor to every bite.

Luxbar

18 E. Bellevue, 312-642-3400

If you’re going to order dessert, you might as well go all out. The Snickers pie at this Gibsons-owned hotspot in the heart of the Gold Coast will knock your socks off–in terms of both its size and taste. The gigantic heap of ice cream embedded with layers of Snickers bits, chocolate, caramel and peanuts, serves at least eight people. Although the pie sounds like it would be too sweet, lovers of the treat swear by the stuff because of the good equilibrium of ice cream to candy bits.

Dunlay’s on the Square

3137 W. Logan, 773-227-2400

Remember those chocolate chip cookies your mom or maybe grandma used to bake that you’d eat right out of the oven with a glass of milk? The giant cookie at this Lincoln Square, cordial neighborhood bistro is the same idea, except the milk is substituted with a generous scoop of rich vanilla ice cream. Crispy on the bottom and warm and oozing velvety chocolate on the inside, this giant cookie bakes in a cast-iron skillet, gets a drizzling of caramel sauce and then goes directly to your table. You will think you have died and gone to heaven.

Fat Willy’s Rib Shack

2416 W. Schubert, 773-782-1800

Nothing beats washing down a plate of barbequed ribs from with this beloved North Side rib shack best than the house apple fritter dessert. Unlike traditional, bite-sized apple fritters, this treat is giant-sized and looks like a rectangular doughnut. Stuffed with apple chunks, deep-fried to a golden brown, the fritter is served with generous amounts of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.

Bb’s

22 E. Hubbard, 312-755-0007

Ever had banoffee pie? If you haven’t, you’re missing out. This pudding-pie dessert with English origins suits the menu at this recently opened “gastropub” in River North, which features many British-inspired offerings. So what’s in a banoffee pie? Whipped cream mixes with a sticky custard of toffee and sliced bananas. The bananas are fresh, the crust is flaky and the custard is rich and has some coffee-flavored notes. What more could you ask for?

Grand Lux Cafe

600 N. Michigan, 312-276-2500

A story about desserts in Chicago wouldn’t

be unblemished without cheesecake. While some say Eli’s is the best cheesecake in the city,

many favor the Cheesecake Factory’s delectable cakes. By selecting the Grand Lux down the street, a more upscale offshoot of the Factory, you can avoid some of the traveler crowds and bump up the ritz. Grand Lux’s cheesecake selection is dinky compared to its sister restaurant, but still features old favorites like the original, fresh strawberry and white chocolate raspberry truffle. Dense and rich, understated yet divine, the cakes are sure to please. For a unique treat, try the fluffy and delicious Dulce De Leche, a heavenly and lighter caramel cheesecake.

Naha

500 N. Clark, 312-321-6242

At this minimalist, modern eatery in the heart of River North, culinary experts and cousins Carrie and Michael Nahabedian touch on their Armenian roots with their creative dishes, which also have Mediterranean and modern American influences. Those flavors carry straight through to the desserts by Elizabeth Buettner, the pastry chef. Look for savory ingredients mixed with the sweet, such as the unique Manjari chocolate sandwich made with Pinot Noir poached pears, thyme and olive oil ice cream. Don’t pass up the rich goat’s milk cheesecake with grape gelee, roasted walnut ice cream and shredded, caramelized filo dough, similar to baklava. The panna cotta is heavenly on its own, but also comes with hazelnut ice cream, milk chocolate crunch and candied orange caramel. Although the types of desserts stay the same, many of the ingredients turn seasonally, so there’s all the time a fancy to stop in.

Chocolate Bar at the Peninsula

108 E. Superior, 312-337-2888

If you beyond doubt want to gorge yourself on chocolate and sweets, head over to the gorgeous Peninsula Hotel, which hosts the Chocolate Bar in the lobby on Friday and Saturday nights. For a flat fee of , you get an all-you-can eat marker to the mammoth buffet that’s loaded with goodies. Choose among dinky cakes like German Chocolate variations or the more savory brie cheesecake bite with a buttery crust. Then there’s an endless assortment of chocolate covered treats–peanut brittle, strawberries, pretzels and more. Wash it all down with one of the chocolaty or creamy, specialty martinis. If you order one of those, you get a allowance on the chocolate bar. Just a suggestion–you might want to skip supper or just have a salad before showing up at the buffet.

Halloween originated in Ireland as an antique Celtic festival known as Samhain, which was celebration of the end of the harvest season, it is still sometimes referred to as Celtic New Year. The Celts believed that on October 31 the boundary in the middle of the living and the dead was dissolved, the dead walked the earth causing sickness and damaging crops. They Celts would light bonfires to ward off evil spirits, they would also don masks and costumes to mimic the spirits in an endeavor to placate them. To this day, people in Ireland dress up as creatures from the underworld. There are also other traditions which have advanced and evolved over the years, including:

Colcannon – This is the dish that is traditionally cooked for dinner on Halloween night. It contains potatoes, cabbage and onion.

Heavenly Cakes

Barmbrack – This is the original cake for Halloween. It is a fruit bread The Halloween Brack traditionally contains various objects baked into the bread. Each member of the house is given a slice, in the barmbrack are placed a pea, a stick, a piece of cloth, a small coin and a ring. Each item, when received in the slice, is supposed to carry a meaning to the man concerned: the pea, the man would not marry that year; the stick, “to beat one’s wife with”, would have an unhappy marriage or continually be in disputes; the cloth or rag, would have bad luck or be poor; the coin, would enjoy good fortune or be rich; and the ring, would be married within the year

The Ivy Leaf- Each member of the house places a excellent ivy leaf into a cup of water and it is then left undisturbed overnight. If, in the morning, a leaf is still excellent and has not advanced any spots then the man who placed the leaf in the cup can be sure of 12 months condition until the following Halloween

Jack O’Lanterns – The legend relates that a young blacksmith made a pact with the devil, he was denied entry into Heaven and was condemned to wander the roads of Ireland. He was allowed to carry a burning ember which he placed inside a gouged out turnip. people hung turnips in the windows of their homes to ward off evil spirits. When the Irish arrived in America they prolonged the tradition but because of the scarcity of turnips they used pumpkins instead.

Halloween Games – Games are often played, such as bobbing for apples, where apples, peanuts and other nuts and fruit and some small coins are placed in a basin of water. The apples and nuts float, but the coins, which sink, are harder to catch. Every person takes turns catching as many items inherent using only their mouths. In some households, the coins are embedded in the fruit for the children to “earn” as they catch each apple. Another tasteless game involves the hands-free eating of an apple hung on a string attached to the ceiling
